Post-conviction

Legal services that mitigate collateral consequences of interaction with the criminal legal system.

expungement

Expungement is the process through which a criminal record is sealed. It is an important and often meaningful step in reducing collateral consequences of contact with the legal system. Not all records are immediately eligible for expungement. There are waiting periods and other requirements that may impact your eligibility for an expungement and differ based on the offense

Expungement intakes at LRC are suspended at this time. We If you need help with an expungement, you can apply for assistance from the Minnesota Attorney General’s Office or the Volunteer Lawyers Network.

Clemency

It’s no secret that the criminal legal system is imperfect. But when the legal system gets it wrong, it doesn’t mean that mistakes can’t be remedied. Clemency is the umbrella term for different types of post-conviction relief from the State. This includes commutation and pardon – two legal processes that LRC is able to support a limited number of clients with throughout a year.

Applying for commutation or pardon and preparing for a hearing in front of the Clemency Review Commission requires a significant investment of time and energy. Check out these videos, developed with our partners at The Legal Revolution, for additional support as you prepare your pardon or commutation application and navigate the legal process.
